NARENDRA MODI
Narendra Modi is the current Prime Minister of India, having taken office on May 26, 2014. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist organization. Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat, India. Before becoming Prime Minister, he served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014.
Modi is known for his ambitious economic reforms and efforts to modernize India's infrastructure. Under his leadership, significant initiatives like Make in India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission), Digital India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India) were launched. He has also overseen the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the controversial demonetization of high-value currency notes in 2016.
On the international stage, Modi has worked to strengthen India's global relationships, particularly with the United States, Japan, and countries in the Middle East. His government has been praised for improving India's standing in global politics but also criticized for policies perceived as divisive, particularly with regard to religious minorities.
Modi's leadership style is often described as decisive and charismatic, and he enjoys a large following, particularly among the Hindu nationalist community. However, his tenure has also seen criticisms related to human rights, religious tensions, and the handling of protests, such as those against the controversial farm laws in 2020–2021.
He was re-elected as Prime Minister in 2019, securing a large mandate.
