Dipendra Shah is a name associated with a tragic and historical event in Nepal. He was the Crown Prince of Nepal and is widely known for being responsible for the royal massacre in 2001. On June 1, 2001, Dipendra reportedly killed nine members of the royal family, including his father, King Birendra, mother, Queen Aishwarya, brother, and other close relatives. He then turned the weapon on himself, ultimately falling into a coma.
Dipendra was declared king while unconscious, and he reigned for three days before he passed away on June 4, 2001. The motive behind the massacre remains a subject of speculation, with various theories suggesting family disputes, particularly regarding his choice of a spouse, as a possible trigger. His actions led to a significant shift in Nepal's monarchy, eventually contributing to the end of the Shah Dynasty's rule and the establishment of a federal republic in 2008.
